The Facts of Reconstruction by John R. Lynch - 1913 First Edition of this landmark Black History book
Book in very good/ near fine condition, with gilt title on spine retaining shine, slight shelf wear on exterior blue cloth cover. Interior pages unmarked, undamaged, tight spine, near-white pages.
Only interior flaw is some age stains on back cover page. Tissue paper protecting frontspiece photo is intact. Other interior photos remain sharp. As good or better condition than any other copy of this book I've seen currently for sale.
Some background on the book & author:
"Born into slavery in Louisiana and freed under the Emancipation Proclamation, John R. Lynch was the first African-American Speaker of the Mississippi House of Representatives, and among the first generation of African Americans elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from 1873-1877 and again in the 1880s."
“In 1913 he published his Facts of Reconstruction, in an effort to set the record straight"
