Don Shoemaker Vintage Cocobolo Mexican Rosewood Bean Shaped Bowl. Dimensions: 9 5/8” long, 3 1/2” wide on average, and 1 1/2” tall. Weighs 8 1/4 ounces. Original early Don Shoemaker label, “HECHO EN SANTA MARIA MORELIA, MICH.) “MICH.” being Shoemaker’s abbreviation for “Michoacán, Mexico,” the state in Mexico where Shoemaker and his wife lived and worked, after first Honeymooning there. In the late 1950’s to the 1960’s, Shoemaker’s wood business expanded to where he hired over 150 skilled craftspeople to work for him producing his popular, high quality fine wood products and sculptures. Shoemaker is famous for big furniture, which sells for tens of thousands into the hundreds of thousands of dollars at auctions today. This small bean shaped simple bowl has a solidity and serenity to it. Also it was hardly used, so the pristine condition of a 56 year old Shoemaker bowl is special. Often the label would say “SENAL, S.A.” ( the name of Shoemaker’s company) in the 1970’s to 1980’s. Rare.
